New Delhi, January 10, 2019: The much-anticipated Nissan Kicks compact SUV will officially go on sale in the Indian market on January 22, 2019. Nissan has also started dispatching the new SUV to dealerships for customer previews. Ahead of the launch, the Kicks has been spotted at Nissan’s EVM Nettoor dealership in Kochi. Bookings for the SUV have already been commenced at a token amount of Rs 25,000.
The Nissan Kicks will come as a replacement for the Terrano SUV, which was launched in August 2013. The Terrano failed to receive positive response from buyers, and the similarity with Duster was the main reason behind its failure. With Kicks, Nissan aims to turn things around and hoping to gain some momentum in the highly competitive environment according to the reports published in autoportal.com.
For people not in the know, the Kicks is Nissan’s global product and is currently on sale in select international markets including Brazil. However, the India-spec model is significantly different from the global model in terms of styling, size, powertrains, platform and even interior. While the Brazilian model is built on the Nissan’s V platform, the India-spec model is based on the heavily localised Duster’s MO platform. It is bigger than the global version, which translates into more interior space and bigger exterior profile. In terms of proportions, thee Nissan Kicks is 4,384mm in length, 1,813mm in width and 1,649-1,656mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,673mm. In fact, it is longer, wider and taller than the Creta. The SUV has around 83mm longer wheelbase than the Korean counterpart, which ensures more cabin space.
The Nissan Kicks compact SUV looks premium from outside, thanks to Nissan’s signature V-motion grille, LED projector headlamps, contrasting roof and shark fin antenna. The SUV rides on stylish 17-inch machined alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a dual-tone brown and black scheme, leather finish on dashboard and door trims, and leather upholstery for seats, steering and gearknob. The Kicks also get several segment-leading features like automatic climate control as standard, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, segment-first surround view monitor 360 degree camera, vehicle dynamic control, traction control and four airbags.
Autoportal.com further added that the Nissan Kicks will be available with 2 engines – 1.5-litre H4K petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel. While the former is capable of producing 105bhp and 142Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 108bhp and 240Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual for petrol and a 6-speed manual for diesel. The Kicks SUV will directly rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and other SUVs in its category.
