New Delhi, July 25, 2018: Remember Bajaj Chetak? The scooter, which once dominated the Indian market for decades and became a status symbol seems ready to make a comeback, but with an electric powertrain. The homegrown brand that once dominated the Indian scooter market, plans to launch a fully electric scooter in the country by 2020. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, has hinted towards the ambition of the brand.

According to reports published in autoportal.com by Mainak Bajaj’s ambition to enter the electric mobility segment is nothing new as the company previously hinted about bringing electric two-wheelers. Now, with the brand clearly indicating towards an electric scooter, it is clear that the company wants to venture into the risky urban electric mobility segment. Meanwhile, Rajiv Bajaj has also indicated that an electric motorcycle is also on card.

India is slowly but steadily moving towards the electric mobility. Indian government too is keen to introduce the zero emission mobility in the country by the end of next decade. However, lack of infrastructure, high price for the EC lithium-ion batteries are the concerns that are making hindrance in front of the growth of EVs in India.
